General questions
1. Will my child be in a group with his/her friends?
We ensure that students are in mixed classes that are randomly selected. We are a six-form entry Academy so if your child is form a primary school that is one of our larger feeder schools then there is a possibility that they will be in a tutor group with students that they know.
2. Will I get to meet my child’s tutor?
In future years, students will get the chance to meet their tutor on the induction day. However, due to our developing status this may not always be possible. However they will get to meet their Head of House on this day. Parents and Carers will get the chance to meet all parents at the Parents evening to be held on 30 June 2009.

Support for students
1. How can I support my child during the transition process?
Transition from primary to secondary school can be a very confusing time for students. On a daily basis you can help by ensuring that they are organised for their day at the Academy. Packing their school bag with the books that they require the night before can aid a more smooth morning routine. Checking your child’s planner each day can help them organise their home learning.
2. How can I help my child with their journey to the Academy?
A practise run of the journey to the Academy can help your child feel more at ease on their first day. Make sure that your child knows their route to the Academy and how long it will take them.
3. Can my child use ICT at the Academy to help them with their home learning?
Yes, the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is open until 5pm every evening. There are staff available to help with home learning during these times.
4. Is there a Breakfast Club?
Breakfast Club is open from 7.45am, as is the LRC, until 8.35am every morning. Again, staff are available to help students with home learning during these times.
The curriculum
1. What happens in enrichment and how will my child choose their enrichment options?
Enrichment takes place from 3pm-4pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week. Students are given the chance to express their preferences for enrichment choices during the Induction day in July. Students will then be allocated, where possible a range of enrichment activities. They will find out what they have been allocated when they receive their timetables in September. The enrichment cycle lasts for one year.
2. How much home learning will my child be given?
Students will be given two half-hour home learning tasks on Monday to Thursday. On Friday the will receive three half-hour home learning tasks. Longer home learning activities may be set over holiday periods. At times students will be given extended home learning over a period of weeks. Teachers will ensure that each student’s progress with extended work is monitored with students being helped to meet a series of interim deadlines.
