Autumn Term
The SLT started the Autumn Term by standing for election. There was a rigorous process, which saw them canvassing for support, speaking in Assembly and eventually being elected through a whole Academy vote. Once elected, they started representing the views of the students. They have updated and developed the Student Leadership Team Fronter room, helped to shape the table tennis protocol and produced their constitution – available to see on their Fronter front page.
Since then, the SLT have agreed the charities that they are supporting this year and have been busy raising money for them already. The charities that we have chosen are:
Holborn – Homeless Action in Barnet
Walbrook – Tearfund
Ludgate – Project Zove
Bow – Barnet Children’s Hospital
Piccadilly – CLIC Sergeant
Strand – Child Bereavement Charity
Our charity for the Autumn Term was Barnet Children’s Hospital and the SLT set up a virtual Christmas card. Students and staff were asked to donate money to the above charity in return for leaving a Christmas message on the Fronter Christmas room. There were various messages of good cheer and the SLT raised a sum of money which will be sent to Barnet Children’s Hospital.
The SLT also invited and entertained some of our elderly residents at our Wii and Tea Party at the end of term. See the separate article in the newsletter for more details.
During the Autumn Term the SLT decided upon the winners of our Jack Petchey Awards. Students and staff nominate students who they feel are a positive role model for students at Wren and the reasons why. Each month the SLT discuss and decide upon a winner. The winners for the Autumn Term are:
October – Danja Braho
November – Benito Marlay Nicholson
December – Jonathan Joseph
We look forward to receiving more nominations this term.
Spring Term
Although we are only two weeks in to our Spring Term the SLT have lots planned already. Later on this term the SLT are going to visit our partner school Berkhamsted School. Last year, during Activities Week, our Year 7 were lucky enough to stay at Berkhamsted on an overnight residential trip. We are planning to run a similar trip this year and the SLT are going to give their opinions on how we can develop the experience. We are hopeful that they are going to be able to visit some lessons at Berkhamsted so that they can compare learning at Wren to learning in another school.
On Monday 18 January 2010 the SLT will have the chance to take part in a Jack Petchey Public Speaking training. This will last for a day and ensure that our leadership team are confident and capable public speakers.
They will also be deciding which charity we are going to raise money for this term and what type of charity event will be organised.
