This year's Summer Concert was, as usual one of the highlights of the Wren Year and was our first performance in the new hall. It included some very interesting features including performances from the Gospel Choir, School of Rock, Samba Band, Spanish enrichment and some brave soloists.
Soloists included Louisa Stratton (8 Strand) performing a beautiful violin solo and Alexi Poulli (7 Strand) who played his saxophone piece which also won this year's inter-house music competition. Strand was obviously very proud of them.
The Gospel choir performed a range of Gospel hits which included "Stand by Me" and "Lean on Me". The Samba Band performed "Let's Go Crazy" and "No Vuvuzelas". School of Rock performed "Naïve" (sung by Ella Oliver-Hewitt, 8 Walbrook) and "Use Somebody" (sung by Karis Fuller 8 Bow). New and creative acts included a version of "La Bamba" performed by the Spanish Enrichment and a fashion show by the Fashion Enrichment. This also included a breathtaking break dance by George, starting off the fashion show. There was also another break dancing duet by Michael Akinyele and Ben Taylor which was also thrilling. Other acts included Drama, who performed a very detailed scene of Dracula (a play the students have been studying this year) and some very hard hitting and touching poems were read out by some very ambitious Yr 7s.
Parents, students and teachers know that as Wren grows; our concerts will get better and better each year as the New Year 7s flood in with different talents and ideas. This year’s Summer Concert has ended our busy and well-achieved year on a golden note, literally in terms of music!
